Identifying Potential Mentors
Mentorship is a relationship in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps to guide a less experienced or less knowledgeable person.
Qualities of a Great Mentor:
• Someone with experience
• Someone who is invested in your success
• Someone who will challenge you
• Someone who will hold you accountable

Reaching Out to a Potential Mentor
Reaching Out
• Keep it simple – Introduce yourself and why you want to connect with them
• Ask for something specific – either for a phone call, or for their response to a few questions
• Acknowledge and respect their time
• Build the relationship over time – Comment on Social Media posts, send Thank You notes
As you consider reaching out to a potential mentor, first do some homework – visit their website, look at their LinkedIn profile, read their published materials, etc.

Truth #6 – Having a mentor is not a one-way street. As the mentee, it is your responsibility to follow up on your Mentor’s suggestions and recommendations.
Tips for Following Up with Your Mentor:
• Let them know you took the action they suggested
• Let them know what the results were• Tell them the lessons you learned from taking the action
• Share with them your next steps
